The
Heaven by Panchachuli products are made from 100% pashmina
wool, are woven or knitted by hand and are of exceptionally
high quality. Unfortunately, the great demand for products
made from this exquisite wool in recent years has led to the
name pashmina being applied to products of inferior quality.
Pure pashmina products feel wonderful, warm and soft as finest
cashmere but lighter and more flowing. Mukti Datta, the founder
of the Panchachuli cooperative has been in contact for many
years with the nomadic tribes of the Tibetan Himalayas, who
have been trading this exquisite good for generations. This
means she has direct access to high-quality raw materials.
The products from Heaven by Panchachuli are not only beautiful,
but their sale supports the economic and social structure
of an entire region. Panchachuli Women Weavers Work is the
largest cooperative of economically self-sufficient women
in Kumaon.
Munsiyari:
The Munsiyari collection is named after the tribal region
on the Indo-Tibet border where the Panchachuli Range of Himalayas
is located. This collection comprises only the purest Tibetan
Pashmina brought from nomads on the high Tibetan plateau to
the main production unit of Panchachuli Women Weavers to be
processed using Scottish machines before being handspun and
handwoven to create exquisite stoles, scarves, shawls, wraps,
throws and blankets. We do not dye our Pashmina because the
delicacy of the fibers which tend to weaken when the process
of vegetable dyeing is applied. So the two shades in the collection
are the natural colors of the wool. The word Lena is the local
term for pure Pashmina.
